Letter from the Desk of Ben Kong (3/22/2020)

Dear QHC

Peace and Joy to you! Another Sunday has come and gone. For those of us who were able to worship God via QHC online, I trust that God’s presence met with yours. This is a season to experience the Triune essence of God’s characters of omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence

It is my prayer that all of us are obeying the government’s and medical professionals’ strong advice to stay home and practice “social distancing”. Please do not wander about unnecessarily. This past week, a brother in Christ from a Chinatown church in my age group passed away within two days of contracting the virus. A retired pastor from my home church network contracted the virus from his family and passed. It speaks to the fragility of the human body and the need to obey guidelines.

QHC pastoral and ministry staff will not be going to the physical church building. We are reminded during this turbulent time that church is NOT a building, but a BODY of believers. If you find excess time beyond your working from home hours, I encourage you to read and /or watch useful and meaningful material. Spend time with your loved ones... call someone or video chat, all from the comfort of your home!

For those in the essential employee categories, please be safe and stay well. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

I want to remind everyone that there is an online prayer time via Zoom every morning at 8AM.The link is on the church website. Please join us as we lift our voices in one accord to the heavenly Father. In addition, there are many small groups who are gathering online for fellowship and prayer. I encourage all of us to pray within these small groups online, specifically Tuesday evenings at 7:45PM, our usual church prayer meeting time.

Finally, thank you for the faithfulness ofthose who have begun participationintheTithe.lyQHC offering app (link is on the QHC website)Allow me to share Malachi 3:10 as an encouragement“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”This is the only time in Scripture that God says to his people, “Test Me!”

May the Blessings of God pour out upon you during this season.

Letter from Rev. Ben Kong about Sunday Service (3/20/2020)

Dear QHC Family:

We are indeed swimming through unprecedented waters. I hope all of you will heed the medical advice of “social distancing”! Please be safe!

As we may be worshipping online for the foreseeable present, allow me to make some suggestionsto prepare ourselves for Sunday online corporate worship.

We praise God for the technological marvel of live-streamingand other forms of online worship. Yet this will not be the same as in person live corporate worship. We will not be able to see each other’s faces and interact with one another. Nevertheless, this is the best way to worship God as one church family in moments like these. We are assured that the omnipresence of the Holy Spirit will be in our midst.

We began live-streaming last Sunday and I have heard various comments made. This Sunday will change for me as I will not be at church live-streaming but at home like all of you. I sense that it will be hardto focus and concentrate on God during online worship because there are so many possible and real distractions at home. Therefore, I would like to offer some guidelines to help you maximize your online worship experience at home.

How to worship God at home via online / live-stream worship:

The key is basically to act as if you are actually in QHC or that I am in your house to worship God.

1. Rise and shine to prepare yourself for worship.

2. Consume your breakfast because we should not eat during our online worship time.

3. Wear your usual Sunday attire to have a proper heart and mindset for worship.

4. Prepare your tithes and offering. QHC has set up a account on the website! Please set up your account on Saturday so that you would be ready to give your tithes and offering online during worship or any other appropriate time.

5. Log into the account on our Vimeo channel at 9:40AM to prepare for 9:45AM worship.

6. Do your best to fully participate in worship by doing the following:

a. Please be attentive throughout the whole worship service.
b. Please worship as a family, children should be with you and not doing other things.
c. Please avoidtalking with your family members during praise and message time.

It is my prayer and hope that we will worship God in Spirit and Truth as we experience this unprecedented period in history. All Glory to God

Letter from Rev. Ben Kong to QHC (3/17/2020)

QHC Family

The staff bought lunch / dinner take out from “Chopsticks Restaurant” (our Sunday lunch supplier) today as a sign of support for small businesses. What is happening is unchartered territory for many of us who grew up in a first world society. However, let us consider that this may be the norm for so many who were born and live the entirety of their lives in developing world nations.

COVID-19 is causing us to ponder:

1. The importance of community: We are made in the image of a triune God who exists in perfect community. We can't function and live apart from one another because God created us to live in a loving and caring community.

2. The importance of Sunday corporate worship: We just missed one and may not feel its significance just yet. If we are forced to livestream worship for an extended period, things may be different. We are made to worship and praise God corporately.

3. The invisible enemy: Fighting against any virus is difficult because it is invisible to the naked eye. Fighting against Satan is similar because he is invisible to the naked eye. You know that the fight against Satan was won at the cross in an “Already but not Yet” state. Satan will fully be defeated when Christ returns. Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit lives in all of us who call him Lord. In addition, we have the Word of God and prayer with which we can detect the schemes of Satan and defeat his cohorts. Finally, we have the body of Christ to rely on and fight the battle together. With God's mercy, medical professionals' courageous service, churches' prayer gatherings and everyone doing his share to cooperate, we will triumph over COVID-19.

4. The opportunity for Christ-followers to shine: Hoarding is never good. It shows a lack of faith in God. Israel was chastised by God when they were in the desert and collected two days’ portion of manna when God said collecting one day's portion is sufficient because He is going to provide for them daily. On Friday, the day before the Sabbath, God told them to collect two days’ portion because on Sabbath they will not work but rest and worship God and enjoy one another. God is not unreasonable, a proper and reasonable preparation for the future is wise. But excessive preparation for the future is sin and God is not pleased. When we prepare excessively for ourselves, whether it be for retirement or to respond to COVID-19, we are basically saying to God we are self-sufficient. WWJD and what would he like us to do? This is the time to practice sacrificial love and the Golden Rule. Doing to others as you would have them do to you is what Jesus taught us. This is the opportune time to let “this little light of ours” shine brightly in the world.

Let's continue to mobilize all the small groups to pray together using the prayer items on the QHC website as well as your own prayer concerns. We don't know how long this uncertainty will persist. But let's live each day well. This is a great opportunity to spend time with our loved ones, read the Bible, pray, etc.
